The Disney method is a well-structured form of brainstorming that helps to make creative and imaginative ideas more realistic. The method is easy to implement and can be used both individually and in groups.

The method is easy to implement and can be used both individually and in groups.

The iterative innovation process can be divided into four phases: Discovery, Ideation, Validation and Scaling. The Disney method belongs to the ideation phase and supports the generation of ideas.

how does
the method work?

The method is named after the creative mind and creator of Disney, Walt Disney, himself. The purpose of the method is to bridge the gap between fantasy and reality:
New, creative ideas are to be tested for their suitability for reality within the framework of the method and transferred into a form that can be easily implemented.

The method is strongly based on brainstorming and can be divided into three successive phases: The "dreamer phase", the "realist phase" and the "critic phase".

While free brainstorming without any limitations takes place at the beginning, the initial ideas are tested for their suitability for reality and further developed as the process progresses. The participants slip into the roles of the three method phases and can thus playfully sound out the innovation potential of their ideas.

Step by Step Guide

1

In the first phase or "dreamer phase", the users draw on the fullness of their creative impulses: brainstorming is carried out without any restrictions or criticism - instead, all thoughts and imagination are given free rein.

2

In the second step, or "realist phase", the focus shifts to a realist perspective. Still inspired by the conviction that the idea can be implemented, the focus should now be on defining the idea: An initial action plan should be outlined, as well as a rough timetable drafted. The resources required for implementation should also be listed.

3

The third and final stage of the Disney method, the "critic phase", aims to identify potential obstacles and hurdles to the implementation of the idea. The users should ask themselves what potential weaknesses the conceived ideas might have and what might have been ignored so far.

4

At the end of the three phases, the entire team discusses the collected ideas and thoughts for 15-20 minutes. If possible, they should summarize and prioritize overlapping points.
