Innovative Organizations

While there are many more companies that have innovation into their DNA than these obvious candidates, one question remains: What is it that makes these organisations innovative? Is it their company culture, certain behaviours their employees might show or are their processes more innovation-friendly than at other organisations? And more importantly, what can organisations that are not part part of the self-proclaimed group of 'digital natives' learn and adopt from these organisations?
Why is this Warum ist das für Innovation wichtig? for innovation
Every company needs a clear definition of what innovation is for them that is understood broadly in the organisation in line with Peter Drucker's famous statement: "you can't manage what you don't manage". For us, innovation is the "creation, development and implementation of a new product, process or service, with the aim of improving efficiency, effectiveness or competitive advantage".
However, what are the traits of innovative companies that help them to pursue innovation in an effective and efficient way? A trait is a distinguishing quality or characteristic and there are obviously many factors that contribute to the innovation readiness of a company rather than a single trait. Some of these traits are grounded in the organisational structures & operating models, some are grounded in the organisational culture and some are grounded in the mindsets of individuals within the organisation.
💭 Reflect for yourself:
- How can we better shape and communicate our overall direction for innovation that guides everyone's’ efforts?
- How do we create a culture that accepts mistakes and learns from failures?
- How can we build data-driven feedback loops that help us build better products?
- How can we co-create products and service more collaboratively?
- How can we keep a pulse and continuously identify relevant partners across the whole organisation?
- Where and how can we embed more data-driven decision making and an experimentation mindset?
